PIANNING
London, 2020
Process music. This suite for solo piano, written during the isolation context of 2020 and the COVID-19, is my second project — following Anxiety/Serenity — that involves tape delay as a creative medium.
My musical formative years have been full of blues and rock. Through these pieces, I aim at challenging our conception of music and cliches. A lot of the last hundred years of popular music has been based on very simple harmonic concepts, the relationship between the tonic, the dominant and the subdominant — the I-IV-V. We recognise this music because we heard it over and over. We enjoy it because it sounds familiar.
This is what this suite is all about; familiarity and cliche. Until the process appears and all takes a new direction.
